Wicked Cowboy Charm PLUS Q&A

Wicked Cowboy Charm (Lucky Penny Ranch #4)

Book Review:

Wicked Cowboy Charm is the fourth and final book in the Lucky Penny Ranch series. I would recommend you read the books in order because these stories have a strong family orientation. They can all be read as standalone novels however to get that warm and fuzzy sense of community you will want to build your relationship with the whole family.

This book is set in a snow storm, and I know this is a popular theme at this time of year, but it works well in this case. It's the first book to be set mainly away from the Lucky Penny Ranch.

Deke Sullivan has never thought about settling down, but lately, he has been watching his close friends find love, and with the right woman, he is beginning to see the appeal of it too.
Josie Dawson is new in town and a member of his favourite family. She is looking to join the Cowgirl business and settle roots locally in Dry Creek.
She knows Deke is trouble from the second she lays eyes on him, but that doesn't mean she's blind. He is a hot dose of Cowboy with all the charm and sweet trimmings. Just ask any of the many women in his hometown. Josie refuses to be his newest edition, but with an adventure in sight and a snow storm to cut off the world, there may just be a chance for these two.

Wicked Cowboy Charm is a sweet romance. The two main characters are hot for each other right from the start it just takes them a while to warm up to the idea of something more. This was a nice ending to a charming series of Cowboy romance novels. 4.5 stars out of 5.

This book is available in both paperback and kindle edition just like the rest of the series.

 Q & A with the Author

1. What did you enjoy most about writing this series?

The characters—plain and simple. They became my friends (and enemies) and I loved having all those sassy gals and sexy cowboys in my head all those months.

 2. Which was your favourite book to write?

Can’t say as I had a favorite. They were all such a delight to write, each with their own set of obstacles and different personalities.

3. Who was your favourite character in the books and why?

That would be like choosing a favorite child which reminds me of a personal story. I have three children: a son, Lemar, then two daughters, Amy and Ginny, all grown with families of their own these days. When they were all teenagers, I got tired of hearing, “You love Lemar more than me.” OR “You love those girls more than me.” So I set them all down for a “visit” one day and told them that I had to work as well as keep up with being a wife and mother and I did not have the time to love them all every minute of every hour of every day of every week. So they each got two days and Sunday belonged to their father. And they didn’t get to choose or know which day was theirs. So the next time I heard, “You love Lemar more than me,” I simply said it wasn’t her day and if she didn’t straighten up, tomorrow wasn’t looking too good either. It’s the same with writing. Some days I love a particular character; the next when he’s being a problem child and not talking to me—well, it’s not his day!

4. The characters and places are already established by the last book how did this affect the storyline?

It’s like making fresh bread from an old recipe. There’s already a setting (except that Deke and Josie spend part of their time away from Dry Creek), already a group of friends and family, but the outcome is like pulling a loaf of fresh bread from a warm oven. It’s new and fresh and although the readers know the setting and the family, hopefully they enjoy the new story.

5. What's next?

This is what I like to call a bumper crop year for books. The lineup for 2017 looks like this:
The Barefoot Summer, Jan. 3 (Available now)
Wicked Cowboy Charm, Jan. 31
Small Town Romance Collection, February
Talk Cowboy To Me, March 7
The Lilac Bouquet, March 28
The Toughest Cowboy in Texas, May 30
The Strawberry Hearts Diner, July 25
Lucky in Love (reissue), Aug. 1
Long, Tall Cowboy Christmas, Sept. 26

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir

Book Review:

This book is written as a set of letters and journal entries. It's based around the Chilbury ladies' choir in world war 2. It has a fictional English setting near Kent. It is full of gossip, love stories and crazy going on's of a small village.

I've just had a baby. Therefore, parts of this book sit a little uneasy with me. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has just given birth due to unethical midwife practices. Or maybe it's me and my hormones.

This book had its moments and made me smile in places. It's charming and moving. If you are looking for something different, like gossips and meddling women, this is the book for you. It has a bit of everything and some interesting characters.

The men are going to war, and the choir is singing its final number. There can't possibly be a choir without men. The book is set in a time when men dominated the world but the women are starting to gain more responsibility, and something is needed to boost moral. Professor Primrose Trent is a newcomer to the village and a music enthusiast. She wants to bring the women together and start an all-female singing group. The vicar isn't the most open man, but she isn't a pushover. She works her charms, and The Chilbury ladies' choir is formed. This is their stories. It has scandal, romance, heartbreak and so much more.

If you want a fictional historical diverse read, this book is for you. Each character has their own story intertwined into one book. Some you will love and some you with loathe.

Overall I have mixed feelings about this book however that can be what makes a book so good. I've decided to rate this book 4 stars out of 5.

Matchsticks and Candy Canes

Matchsticks and Candy Canes

Book Review:

Sweet story in C.E Wilsons original style. I've read quite a few of her books, and they are always an interesting read. This book follows her usual style and is an intriguing Christmas read.
Elves have been disowned by Santa and outcast into the world. They have to find a new way in the world but unfortunately, are not welcomed into society.
Brynne sells matches to help her family. She's out in the cold every day opposite the bakery. Carter is intrigued by the little elf, but he's heard the rumours. They are not to be trusted. The elf across the street from his uncle's shop doesn't look like a witch, in fact, she looks cold and frail. He's watched her from afar for years, but this Christmas things are going to change.

Matchsticks and candy canes is an unconventional romance novel.

More Than a Marriage

More Than a Marriage

Book Review:

I was looking for something different when I requested this book (via Netgalley), and that's what I got. It is a short story about the difficulties of making a marriage work. More Than a Marriage is the first book I have read by this author, and it was a sweet read. After reading other reviews on Goodreads, I have realised this is book 3 in a series called The Quilting Circle.

Tess and Jacob both have the same end goals and love each other. They are part of the Amish population; however, Jacob finds he needs to obtain work outside their community. His job is stressful, and Jacob finds himself using the modern world to comfort his needs. Tess likes the simple life and wants to enjoy it with her husband, but he's always too busy with his phone. They have to work through the struggle of marriage and find what they truly want.

4.5 stars out of 5. The only criticism I have for this book is that I'd have liked it to be longer.

Book Review:

LA ink meets Big Brother

I like this author, and the synopsis of the book sounded great, but I really struggled with it. The first 35% was the worst, and I stuck with it hoping it would get better and it did, but it just wasn't for me.

My biggest problem with this book is the nickname for the male lead. It grossed me out a little and was a huge turn-off. The nickname is hairy, and it is not meant in the way I took it, but I just couldn't stop imagining the hairiest man possible.

Joel has been burnt in the past and hasn't had a serious girlfriend since. He likes to keep things light and upbeat. Joel owns a tattoo parlour and is enticed into making a reality tv show. That's where he meets the beautiful Annika. She's nothing like him, but he can't keep his attention off her. She's calm, collected and a little cold around the edges. Her job as a TV producer is everything to her. She's willing to do anything to get the job done, but this time the price may be too high.

This book is available for Kindle Unlimited readers, and if you are a member, I'd say you have nothing to lose and just see how you find it. If you are struggling with this book, I'd suggest giving up.

2.5 stars out of 5.

If you are looking for more tattoo parlour, hot, inked males I'd recommend Tammy Falkner's Tall, Tatted and Tempting its one of my favourite books.

Wicked Cowboy Charm (Lucky Penny Ranch #4) Teaser

Wicked Cowboy Charm (Lucky Penny Ranch #4)  Teaser Alert!

Carolyn Brown

ONE BLIZZARD, ONE BUNKHOUSE, AND A WHOLE LOTTA TROUBLE . . .

Josie Dawson is new in town, but it doesn't take a local to know that Deke Sullivan is trouble—in a smokin' hot package. He's sweet, sexy, and has charmed just about every woman in Dry Creek, Texas. Well, Josie won't be next. She'll keep her distance, even if he is great with babies and makes a mean cup of homemade hot chocolate.

Deke Sullivan really is a one-woman type of guy. He just had to do a lot of looking to find that one woman. Now he thinks he's found her and he won't let a strong, sassy gal like Josie slip away. Just when he's wondering how to convince her he only has eyes for her, they get stranded in a tiny cabin during a major blizzard. If Deke can melt her heart before they dig out of the snow, he'll be the luckiest cowboy in Texas . . .

Book Review:

Review to follow on the 31st, January but for now a sneak peak...

Josie could hardly take her eyes off Deke’s strong arms as he carried a pile of wood the short distance from the box to the fireplace. To have those arms around her, to cuddle up next to him on one of those bunk beds—she shook her head to get the picture out of it and reached for the tin box of matches on the mantel.

“How many do you need?” she asked.

“Just one,” he answered.

“Confident, aren’t you?”

“Not confidence, just practice, ma’am.” He got the fire going with the first one.

“Impressive,” she said.

“We’ll get it warmed up in here soon enough.”

Josie sat down on the sofa facing the fireplace and took stock of the little cabin. A set of bunk beds covered the wall to her right. A doorway into a bathroom was to her left along with crudely made bookshelves with about a hundred well-worn paperback books. A deck of cards was in the middle of a card table with a couple of folding metal chairs on either side. A second table was fitted into the small corner from the end of the bunk beds to the wall and another oil lamp had been placed in the middle of it.

“We’ll survive,” Deke said.

“Who are you trying to convince? Me or you?” Josie asked.

“Both of us. It’s better than freezing to death in our vehicles. Lord, I wish I would have turned around and gone right back home when the first snowflake hit,” he answered.

“Me too.” She threw one arm over her head and groaned.

“Top or bottom?” Deke asked.

“Well, now that depends on lots of things,” she said before she thought.

Deke whipped around, his eyes big as silver dollars. “What did you say?”

She blushed and quickly covered her blooper. “I don’t care. I could sleep right here. Maybe I’ll wake up to find this is all a dream.”

“Okay then, I’ll take the bottom bunk. Rascal gets restless if he’s not sleeping right beside the bed on his blanket or else on the foot of it. And darlin’, if you wake up and find this is a dream, don’t leave me behind.”

“No way, cowboy. You are stuck with me for the duration of this damned storm.”

“And you, darlin’, are stuck with me.”

Roomie Wars

Roomie Wars

Book Review:

Roommate stories are on the tick list for me. It's my kind of book. This one was a little different from the usual because the sexual tension isn't there at the start. The main characters have lived together for a while. They already know each other bad habits.

Zoey is about to turn 30 and has fallen into a comfortable rut. Too much pizza, comfortable clothes and staying in have become normal.

Drew, on the other hand, has been a health fanatic. Good food and gym time has transformed him into a ladies man. He likes to go out partying, and date easy women.

They disagree about most things, but their friendship works. They support each other and are willing to compromise.

This book has some quick wit and embarrassing accidents. It's about accepting the one you love for who they are. 4 stars out of 5.

Burn Baby Byrne

Burn Baby Byrne: A Secret Baby Romance (Byrne Brothers Book 2)

Holly Hart

Book Review:

I would recommend you start with book one especially since this story opens with the wedding of the couple from it. We met the Byrne twins in the first novel. We have heard Declan's story, and now it's Kieran's turn. He may be second in command, but he still has a significant role. His brother is away on honeymoon, but that doesn't mean business isn't running as usual. He is loyal to his family and willing to do whatever it takes.

Sofia Morello is the sister of Mickey who is in charge of a rival mob. Siblings rivalry can be a bitch, and they don't see eye to eye. Sofia feels she has to keep her emotions locked up and her head on straight. Her family doesn't always make the best decisions, and she feels she needs to keep her composure. People think she's cold hearted and emotionless, but girls got to do what girls gotta do. In a moment of weakness or maybe it was to piss off her brother Sofia takes Kieran to bed. She sets the rules. It's just sex no talking especially about business.
Can Kieran melt the ice queen? Can two rivals have a future when their families are at war? And will they figure out what is going on between their two families before it's too late?

4 stars out of 5. I liked Sofia. I felt you got to know her character and motives. They may refer to as the Ice Queen, but she's playing her cards close.

This book was recommended to me via the author however I downloaded it through the kindle unlimited store.

Let it Byrne

Let it Byrne

Holly Hart

Book Review:

After a string of unfortunate events, Casey finds herself indebted to the mob. She try's to keep her head above water but is beginning to sink when Declan throws her a rope. There's a catch of course. He wants her to be at his beck and call, but Casey was never good at following the rules.

This is the first book in the series and was recommended to be read before the second instalment. Therefore I followed the advice and now I am ready for my next dose.

I rate this book a solid 4 stars out of 5. I liked the book however I felt Declan was a bit of a pushover when it came to Casey. Free for kindle unlimited readers makes this book an easy read for bedtime.

Christmas from Hell

Christmas from Hell (Neighbor from Hell #7)

R.L. Mathewson

Book Review: ♥ ♥

I really like the neighbors from hell books. I think this one was more expensive in December than any other month, but I decided to wait and got my hands on it for 99p.

Duncan Bradford likes to think of himself as a helping hand to everyone. Even his jinxed little neighbor who always knows how to rub him up the wrong way. Necie is a walking disaster, and somehow Duncan always seems to draw the short straw. He thinks he can't stand her, but Jesus the women can cook. By now we all know the way to a Bradford man's heart is through his stomach, but this Bradford is about to have a Christmas from hell. Thanks to his neighbor the biggest pain in his ass.

Necie has been in love with the gorgeous man from next door since she laid eyes on him, but even she isn't stupid enough to think he might like her back. She's accidentally injured him more times than she would like to admit. Fate is about to throw her a curve ball, and a storm is about to hit. This book is set around Christmas, however, other than the snow it isn't really Christmasy.

It was a fun, witty read which is expected in this series. This book was a little tricky to rate, but I've decided to go with 5 stars out of 5. It's what you would expect from R. L. Mathewson.
