Something Wicked
by Emery Nicolson
Genre: Paranormal Romance
The winds of change are blowing… And something wicked is brewing in the dark.
Millie Lockhart is descended from a long line of powerful witches but that doesn’t mean she has the foresight to avoid being stood up by her blind date, nor the courage to change her miserable life.
Stuck in a rut and unappreciated by her family, Millie must make a choice when fate throws the criminally sexy Colm Walker her way. A choice between a man who is a complete anathema to her family – but makes Millie feel alive - or to languish in her status quo.
Saying yes to Colm Walker could make all of Millie’s dreams come true… Or it could cost her everything.
Including her life.
Something Wicked was originally published as a 20,000 word novella back in 2015. It has been modified and extended into a full-length novel of over 65,000 words.
This book is written in British English which means British spellings and idiom.

“Who was on the phone last night?”
“Millie…” Frustration thy name is Colm, but I’m like a dog with a bone. I can’t let this go.
“Who Colm? Whose call is so important that you take it in the middle of the night and walk out on a lover? Who?!” I’m still gripping his jacket and I shake him a little as my voice rises.
Please Colm. Please have a perfectly good explanation.
“My mother.”
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?
“Your mother. Seriously? You’re going with your mother? Do you often refer to your mother as a jackass, Mr. Walker? What kind of an idiot to you take me for?”
I’m shouting now and, releasing him, I step back and take a few deep breaths, trying to calm down and keep my shit together before I morph into the deranged harpy I fear is lurking just beneath the surface of my skin.
He’s not looking at me. He’s still staring up at the crown steeple of the Cathedral behind me. His jaw clenched and a faraway look in his eyes that I don’t understand.
Breaking the silence I ask once more, “Who was on the phone Colm?”
I watch, my heart sinking as his beautiful eyes close and he drops his head.
“I can’t answer that question Millie, but I need you to trust me. It’s not what you’re thinking.”
“You have no idea what I’m thinking!”
He gives me a look that asks if I’m being serious and mentally I concede the stupidity of the statement when it’s pretty obvious what I’m thinking considering I flat out asked him not five minutes ago if he stole the necklace.
That doesn’t mean I’m willing to outwardly admit it, and in fact, I think I’m done. I won’t stand here in the cold and wet circling around the same point and never getting anywhere.
“Mil -”
I hold up a hand as though I can stop his words by gesture alone, and what do you know, it works. Colm cuts himself off mid word.
“I’m not going to stand here arguing with you Colm. I’m done.” His eyes narrow as I start walking backwards away from him. “This is me walking away. Last night was a mistake.”
Turning on my heel I start marching off down the Mile, quite impressed that I managed to walk a few feet backwards without landing on my ass and slightly, stupidly, heartbroken by the events of the last ten minutes.
I just about hit the cross roads next to the Tron when a firm hand grips my shoulder, forcing me to a stop and Colm steps around me to block my retreat.
“Last night wasn’t a mistake Millie. It was unexpected and unbelievably bad timing, but it was not a mistake.”
He wasn’t supposed to follow me and argue. Such simple words with the power to make my stupid inner self do the happy dance before tripping over ‘unbelievably bad timing’.
“I don’t trust you,” My voice is barely above a whisper, and despite the sound of traffic buzzing by, he hears me.
“I know. I know getting that phone call fucked everything up, but give me a chance Millie. Please. I’m not the guy you think I am.”
Oh Goddess, how I want to give him a chance. I want to feel everything I suspect this man can make me feel but the doubts are almost suffocating. A war is raging inside me; my head versus my heart.
Shaking my head I force out words that are both true but so very much not what I want to say right now. “Last night, I wasn’t myself. I don’t go for one nighters and -”
He cuts me off, “Take me home again Millie and it’s not a one nighter.”
“That’s not a good idea. Too much is different. Last night, well. It seemed like a good idea at the time.” Of course it did, I was horny and smarting from being stood up. Who wouldn’t take home the beautiful bad boy you’ve lusted after for years, if given the opportunity. “But obviously, it wasn’t a good idea.”
“It was a fucking great idea. Quite possibly the best idea either of us has ever bloody had! But it wasn’t enough.” He pulls me towards him with a hand at my waist and tips my head back with a hand buried in my hair. Lips barely brushing mine he breathes, “Once will never be enough. Not with you. I doubt I’ll ever have enough of you Millie.” Oh Gods… “Say yes to me Millie. Let go of the bullshit, the unknown, the uncertainty and trust this. Trust me. Say yes.”
Clobbering the distrustful harpy raging inside back into her box, I throw caution to the wind and jump, trusting Colm to catch me.
“Yes.”
I liked this book but I’m not a fan of characters who are insecure and Millie is worried about her weight at the beginning of this story. There is also a lot of strong language in this book. The story is very fast paced and I was hooked on every page. The storyline was more than I expected. This is a kindle unlimited read and I’ve joined the blog tour.
Something wicked is set in Edinburgh.
This book is intended for the adult audience.

Something Wicked kept me entertained from beginning to end. Millie Lockhart is from a magical family. Unfortunately, being a witch doesn’t help her in the romance department. Her friend sets her up on a blind date who stands her up. Fate deals her a different hand to the night she expects. Her high school crush shows up and he’s interested in a night with her. Colm’s family and Millie’s have never seen eye to eye. Colm is sexy but full of secrets. Millie has to decide if he‘s too good to be true. A magical deadly item has been stolen and Colm seems to be linked to it.I liked this book but I’m not a fan of characters who are insecure and Millie is worried about her weight at the beginning of this story.
