The Place We Met

The Place We Met

My Review:

The place we met is the 3rd Isabelle Broom book I have read, and it's safe to say I'm a fan. Her books are always set in beautiful landscapes and tell an intertwined story.

The place we met is set in Italy and tells the story of two women.

Taggie has moved to Lake Como and works in a hotel. She organises and runs events for the hotel guests. She isn't looking for Prince Charming but keeps playing the role of the damsel. Marco is a tall handsome Italian man. He plays Taggie's rescuer whether she likes it or not. She needs a friend and Marco is slowly growing on her. Most women fall at his feet but she refuses to be one of those women.

Lucy is unlucky in love. She wants to find a man to sweep her off her feet. She has been dating Pete for 5 months now. Everything is still new but seems to be going well. Lucy works in a busy hospital and doesn't get much time off. She decides to book a romantic holiday to Lake Como. She hopes they will have the opportunity to spend some quality time together instead of short stints.

The location is a childhood happy memory for both leading ladies. This is a bittersweet story about finding peace.

5 stars out of 5.

Kissing Cousins

Kissing Cousins

My Review:

Megan hasn't been back to the place she grew up with her family in a long time. Now her cousin is getting married and Megan is one of the bridesmaids. A lot has changed over the years, but her crush on her sort of cousin remains.

This is a trip down memory lane for Megan. She has some sweet childhood memories, and some less than nice ones too. She wants Bradley to notice her, but she also has her pride to consider. They may have only been kids, but Bradley hurt her feelings back then.

Megan has a wedding to attend and her cousin Maureen is playing the perfect bridezilla. Maureen always teased Megan and somethings never change.

Bradley also teased Megan as a child. He may not be her actual cousin, but they have formed a deep bond.

This book was really sweet. It had some funny moments and some cute ones too. The ending felt a little rushed, and it made me wonder if there was going to be a sequel.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read.
4 stars out of 5.

The Good Sister

The Good Sister

My Review:

Two ladies both named Isobel's. Both 60+ and single. This is a reflection of the past story.

Bel is visiting her aunt Isobel in Scotland. She has travelled all the way from Sydney back to the house she grew up in. Her aunt wants to leave her house to Bel. She is hoping she will follow her wishes, and make the house into something special. Bel meets Isobel's solicitor and some of her old friends. Isobel is the meddling old lady but in a friendly way. She wants Bel to get reacquainted with Scotland in this heartwarming tale of love and war.

This book flits between modern time and the past (starting early as the 1940's). Bel reads Isobel's memoirs reflecting on her own past and gets a glimpse into her own parent's romance. Bob is Isobel's once upon a time. He is the man who held so much promise and temptation.

Isobel is the good sister and lives a bittersweet life. This book isn't my usual happy-go-lucky story, but it was enjoyable. 4 stars out of 5.

Hacienda Moon (Path Seekers #1)

Gothic Romance

Centuries ago, his ancestor fell in love with a woman cursed by a jealous witch. No one believed him until it was too late. Eric Fontalvo was determined to prove one thing... that a family curse didn't cause his father's death.

The plan was working until the day he found her...again. Suddenly his life changes forever, and he is forced to question everything he believes.

Moving into an old plantation house was just what Tandie Harrison needed to recover from tragedy. So she writes a book, a story based on a man in her dreams. There's only one problem though... the characters from her novel keep showing up on her doorstep.

And then she finds a diary written hundreds of years ago.

As if that isn't strange enough, she meets him...the man from her dream, someone who reawakens her psychic power along with something else from long ago.

Can Eric and Tandie's love destroy the force keeping them apart? Or will darkness win again?

Hacienda Moon is a new classic tale of two lovers crossing time. A seductive tale of one woman's journey to confront the demons of her past and to find the courage to face her future. It is a mesmerizing novel that explores the deepest depths of human nature, and the characters will hold and haunt you long after you have read the final chapter.

“Wow, it’s so hot out here today.” I stretched my arms, lifting my tee-shirt up until my belly button was exposed, basking in the warmth of the late summer sun. Eric’s mouth fell open. Success! That move totally stole Mr. Intense's attention. Tucking my lips, I made a move toward an even more creative tease, bending over to pick up one of the three paint brushes I’d dropped.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“What does it look like? I dropped my paintbrushes.” I shrugged and waved the brush between us. “Did I not use the proper technique for bending over and picking it up?”
He gave me a boyishly wide big grin and moved closer to where I stood beside the house. Glancing down at the brushes beside my feet, he said, “They do look somewhat dirty. You sure you can handle that task? You strike me as somewhat of a nice girl. With that much paint and dirt all in the heads, you have to get a little rough with cleaning them.” His gaze bore into mine, smoldering me under a hazel brown sugary-colored look this time.
I held his gaze. “Oh, believe me. I have plenty of ways to clean dirty things.”
There was about a foot of space between us now. “Is that right?”
“Oh yeah,” I answered, hoping that the pulse line on my neck didn’t show the way my heart thumped inside my chest.
His gaze drifted from my eyes down to my lips and finally ended at my left shoulder. “Then why don’t you start by cleaning that big red spider off your shoulder?” An amused smile spread across his lips, but a scream shrilled out of mine.
Eric slammed his hands over his ears. “Damn it, Tandie.”
Adrenaline spiked through me. He might as well have said my breasts were hanging out. He would’ve gotten less of a response than he did with the spider statement. “Get it off me! Do you see it? Is it still there? Get it!” I shrieked, jumping around and spinning in half circles.
“I won’t help you until you stop trying to burst my eardrums,” he said, still half-way smiling. He came over and put his arms around me, pulling me into his embrace. “Calm down, Tandie. It’s gone, all right?”
Vowing to never tease Eric ever again, I waited for my breathing to normalize and for my trembling limbs to steady as I was pressed against his chest.

My Review:

Hacienda Moon is the first book I've read by KaSonndra Leigh. I have to be honest it isn't my usual story, however, I was looking for something different and this book was definitely that. It's a dark gothic novel with a spooky edge.

Tandie Harrison is moving out of the big city and back to near her hometown. She has found a quirky house, Chelby Rose to stay at that is in need of some maintenance. Eric Frontalvo is the handyman for the job and Tandie doesn't mind him hanging around. The house has its own spooky feel to it and is the perfect place for a psychic to live even if she has lost her mojo.

Tandie is a writer, but this story is about to take a life of its own. With a looming murder on the horizon, some strange events and some deadly visitors this book is one spooky ride. There is more to Eric than it seems and the house is the key to an ancient mystery.

Like I said this isn't my usual read and I think if you like a spooky mystery you'll love this one. Ghosts, murder and a side helping of romance this book is one exciting journey. It has so much to offer. It's creative and addictive. It took me a little while to get sucked into this book, but it was worth the perseverance. It can be read as a standalone. However, Tandie and Eric's story continue next July in the sequel.

I'm rating this book 4 stars out of 5. I think if you like the gothic on the edge style books you would easily rate this one 5. I enjoyed it, but I will not be looking for more books in a similar style. I prefer sassy over spooky.

About the Author

Author of the Bestelling Lost Immortals Saga, Pathseekers and Musical Interlude Series, KaSonndra Leigh is also a mother, blogazine owner, reader, gardener, home renovator, and a slayer of undead Egyptian mummies in Tomb Raider. She believes in karma, coffee, and seriously wish that the producers of Xena would bring her favorite show ever back.

Strange things about KaSonndra: Everything. She’s weird, odd, unusual, and generally tends to make people think she swooped down from another planet. Maybe she did. Who knows? She’s also a member of the #zombiesurvivalcrew on twitter. So if you need protection from the upcoming apocalypse, don’t hesitate to call on KayLeigh and crew!

KaSonndra was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC, when she’s not hanging out in Bardonia (Lost Immortals Saga setting). Most of her characters are based on people that she has met throughout her travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with KaSonndra as if she has known them her entire life. Does this freak her out? Not really. Her mom says that one day she’ll get kidnapped by one of these folks. KaSonndra’s response? She told her mom that if it weren’t for these lovely people, then she wouldn’t be able to create such fabulously romantic stories.

A few other tidbits about KaSonndra… She has watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. This is her explanation regarding her obsession. She figures that if she keeps watching the film enough times, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in her backyard. Yes! KaSonndra has a huge imagination!

My Review:

Juicy enough to sink my teeth into it!

Haven is a mystery suspense novel which ideally you don't want to find out too much about it before you read it. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere. He and his mother have fluttered from place to place his whole life. Rain has learned to be tough to protect himself, and streetwise to survive. The world is hard and the dice rolls haven't been in his favour. His mother, unfortunately, has met a tragic end and Rain isn't old enough to be left to his own devices. He never knew his mothers past, but he is about to find a place to call his own.

New Wurzburg is a place filled with Magic and mystery. If you don't want to see then you can just close your eyes. Rain sees Freddie and he can't look away. There is something about her that he is drawn to, like a moth to a flame. To the outside world, she seems to be a troublemaker with an attitude. Take a closer look and she is so much more. She may not be beautiful like the prom queen, but her unusual looks are breathtaking. Rain has known a harsh life, and he wants to help Freddie even if she is reluctant.

Rain moves in with his aunt and starts a new school. Everything is looking up for his future, but destiny wants to deal her own cards. Rain is about to get sucked into Freddie's world and it's hard to look away.

5 stars out of 5. I couldn't put this book down. If you like the look of this story I would recommend you just read it, and don't look too closely into what it's about. The ride will suck you in and I loved every minute of it.

This book is intended for the 16 plus audience (U.K.) as it has adult content.

*I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Question 1: What was your inspiration behind Haven?

My editor had mentioned she wanted a gritty paranormal YA, which appealed. Not long after that, my husband and I hiked at Enchanted Rock in the Texas Hill Country, and the scene where Freddie shifts in front of Rain for the first time came to me from nowhere. After touring a small winery, the plot was set in my head… except for the ending. The ending came much later.

Question 2: Who is your favourite character and why?

Petra was by far my favorite, primarily because she was a surprise and not part of the original outline. Unlike Rain, I love surprises. The chief gave was the trickiest to write. If you’ve read the book, you might understand why. As the author, I knew who she was, but she needed to come across as something entirely different, not only because I wanted her to, but she wanted it as well.

Question 3: Can you tell us a little about what life was like for the characters before they met?

Aaron (Rain) Ryland has lived his entire life on the big city streets, bouncing from one homeless shelter to another with his unstable mother. His life has been harsh, so when he’s ordered by a court to move in with an aunt he’s never met in a tiny town, he thinks the most dangerous thing facing him from that point forward will be falling off the hay truck or being bored to death. But he finds nothing boring about Friederike Burkhart, who grew up on her family’s winery in New Wurzburg. Freddie is fierce, independent, and doesn’t need some guy from the city interfering. The small town has lots of secrets and so does Freddie.

Question 4: Did the book turn out the way you expected?

It turned out twistier than expected. The characters ignored my outline completely. I fell in love with them, even if they didn’t follow directions very well.

Question 5: Who would you recommend this book to?

Older teens and fans of paranormal romance.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog today!
