by Lilliana Rose
Genre: Teen, YA Paranormal Fantasy

There is an evil awakening.
At the Lost Souls academy, students aren’t your typical everyday alumni.
Rejects from clans, packs, and covens walk these halls, but there’s something more sinister haunting the academy.
A resident ghost has new student, Zarya, on the fight to banish it. Will her actions cause more enemies at her new school than friends?

‘I’m coming for you.’
A message from beyond has Zarya fearful. Her skills are underdeveloped, but as a ghost hunter, she must stand and fight this new evil.

Can Zarya grow to be the ghost hunter she’s destined to be or will forces overpower her and bring chaos and destruction to the Lost Souls academy?

Goodreads * Books2Read

“I’m Avery Blackwood, and I’m the one who sent you the invitation. I’d be pleased to have you join my academy. You will fit in perfectly.”
They were the words Zarya had wanted to hear for so long. Her heart ached to have somewhere to belong, and while this hadn’t been the most ideal welcome, maybe they could actually work things out. But then again, she had tried to remove the ghost, Crowe, once and for all, and this surely wouldn’t bode well for her. And what the hell was he doing here attached to a witch?
Avery stretched out her hand.
Zarya allowed her to help her to stand. “Zarya Burke. Witch and ghosthunter, as you know.” A tingle left her palm where Avery had touched her. An imprint of Avery’s magical ability. Zarya felt conflicted about whether or not to trust her.
“I’m so glad you accepted the invite.”
“I don’t know that I have.” Zarya was surprised by the words she’d spoken.
A flash of disbelief went across Avery’s face. “Of course, you’d like more details. Right?”
“Well, yeah…” Zarya wasn’t about to accept any old invitation, even though her heart ached to have somewhere like this to stay. She could feel the energy of the books vibrating from the shelves above, and she knew they would contain knowledge she was desperate to learn, which could help her be a better ghosthunter and even witch. This place might smell old and dusty, and needed a good airing out, but she reckoned she could live here. It was so much better than the apartment she shared with Peta.
However, there was a very big ‘but’ welling up inside of her, followed by a lot of questions.
“Come… let’s go to my office, sit down, and talk about my academy and why you would be the perfect addition.” Avery’s smile was too sweet for Zarya’s liking. But when the witch turned, Zarya found herself following. At the end of the day, she had nothing to lose by listening. And this had to be a better option than the life she was already living? Didn’t it?
Zarya felt as if someone was watching her. She looked up and saw a young man around her age looking at her. He was partway up the stairs, his hand on the balustrade, his stance paused as if he’d suddenly been struck by a stunning spell. His eyes followed her, dark and big, with shadows underneath, suggesting he didn’t sleep much. His hair dark with gentle waves was styled with wax to make them stand out. But she didn’t sense anything gentle about him. His skin was pale, his lips a hungry red. Zarya’s breath caught in her throat, and she felt her pulse quicken, her body beginning to react to simply seeing him.
She kept his glance as she walked past on the ground level, turning her head, not wanting to look away. He smiled at her, his teeth a brilliant white. As much as she wanted to, she couldn’t smile back, a different sort of spell seemed to have taken control of her. Her primal instincts were rising, and her body temperature increased, simply from seeing this young man for the first time. Zarya quickly turned away, but the connection between them remained.
This had a feeling of danger, and she knew she should beware.
Keep away from him.
Use him as an excuse not to stay here.
She smiled to herself, following Avery into her dark office.
Yeah, as if. She wasn’t one to shy away from danger.
The waking of Ghosts is the first instalment of a new academy series. It’s told from multiple point of views, but our main character is Zarya. She’s an outcast from her coven and a ghost hunter. She didn’t finish her training as a witch but knows how to survive on the streets. She’s the person you call when Ghosts are your problems.

The lost souls Academy is made up of paranormal misfits. It’s founder Avery Blackwood discovered the lost library in Seattle. She a witch with a different. She wants to save lost souls. Zarya is their newest invited member. Unfortunately, the academy isn’t the only ones watching her.

This is the start of a story. It’s available on kindle unlimited. The waking of ghosts as the title suggests is the beginning and this book sets-up our characters giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. The story does leave you wanting more.

I read this via KU however I’ve joined the blog tour. My review is honest and my own.

Locke Brothers Series Tour and Giveaway!

The Locke Brothers Book 1
by Twi J Bryant
Genre: Contemporary Fiction Love Story

When Vanessa loses Sebastian to rehab once again, she finds passion in the most unexpected person.

Vanessa and Sebastian have been best friends forever, but they're not just friends, they're friends with benefits. This arrangement has never been a problem, but Vanessa starts to long for more. How much longer can she stand the empty bed and a note on the bedside table the morning after?

When Sebastian, a sexy drummer with a bad boy attitude, falls back into his bad habits, Vanessa watches him go to rehab with a broken heart, again. But the lead singer of Sebastian's band, Jessie, is ready to cheer her up. Vanessa needed a shoulder to cry on; instead, she found a dom she can't help but want to please. Jessie ignites her body in ways she's never imagined and slowly inches his way into her heart.

Vanessa didn't want to fall in love, especially with a man so different from Sebastian, but sometimes the heart wants what it wants.

The only problem is, Jessie is Sebastian's younger brother.

Amazon * Apple * B&N * Kobo * Books2Read

Vanessa drags herself out of bed, leaving her blanket behind and scooping up the leather jacket he left behind off the floor instead, wrapping herself in his scent as she makes her way downstairs to make coffee. While she’s waiting for the coffee to brew, she checks her phone, clearing messages and emails. On a whim, she clicks into the camera and poses, shuffling the jacket off one shoulder and positioning the leather to cover her nipples, letting her messy hair fall over her shoulder. “Nothing I love more than coffee and leather,” she captions the photo, sending it to him.

Jessie happens to be scrolling through an article on Sebastian’s cell when the text comes through from Vanessa. “Fuck! How did you... she... fuck. Can I have her for just one night?” Jessie teases, waving the photo in front of Sebastian's face.

“Give me that!” Sebastian hurriedly orders, reaching for his phone. Jessie holds his arm out, refusing to allow Sebastian to reach. Jessie forwards the photo to himself to use later while keeping his brother at bay. “Don't look at her like that. You know she's off-limits.”

“Off limits,” Jessie mocks Sebastian. “She's not your property. You can't just order every man that looks at her away. Eventually, one isn't going to listen to you.”

“I’ll deal with that if it ever happens. In the meantime, back off,” Sebastian mutters.

“She deserves better. Give it to her or walk away,” Jessie insists seriously.

“You think I don’t know she deserves better?” Sebastian shouts, his anger rising.

“Do you love her?” Jessie asks, a little taken aback by Sebastian’s response.

“I always have,” Sebastian answer honestly. “It’s just not enough.”

“What do you mean it's not enough?” Jessie asks, tracking Sebastian’s movements as he paces the room. “She's not exactly a high maintenance type of girl, and she loves you.”

“Maybe I’m the high maintenance one,” Sebastian muses.

The Locke Brothers Book 2

Jessie and Vanessa are happy and in love. Finally, she's with the brother that is ready to commit, or so she thinks.

Sebastian is back from rehab and although he wants Vanessa to be happy, it's hard to be just a friend while his brother steals her heart. Regrets follow him daily; but if he reveals his true feelings now, he won't only lose a brother, he might lose Vanessa for good.

An awkward situation becomes impossible when Jessie asks Vanessa the unthinkable.

Faced with a life or death decision while Jessie is already running for the hills, she turns to the one friend who has always been there for her, Sebastian.

The rift between Jessie and Vanessa puts Sebastian in the middle; a hard place to be when you're trying to balance on a thin line between a devastated brother and the girl you've always loved.

Will Jessie realize what he's giving up? Can Sebastian finally be the man Vanessa needs him to be? How will Vanessa choose and will it be the right choice?

Jessie looks remorseful for the first time in the conversation, but a cloud of anger comes over his face only a moment later. “You put these ideas in her head about marriage and kids and all along you knew there’d be no way out for me.”
“I may have had a moment of weakness after Anna, but not Nessa. She was certain you would give her everything. She slapped me so hard for telling her that you wouldn’t. She had absolute faith in you. There was nothing I could have said to change her mind,” Sebastian explains plaintively. “She was absolutely certain you wouldn’t ask her to go through that again.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me? Why hasn’t she told me? We tell each other everything,” Jessie rambles.
“I didn’t tell you because I was ashamed and after a while, she wanted to block it out. We vowed to never discuss it, pretend it didn’t happen. I pushed her away, and she pushed me but neither of us wanted to break our promise, so we just pretended; we were just friends. The jealousy, the nights together followed by me sabotaging any chance we may have had together with the other girls... It all stems from my absolute certainty that I didn’t deserve her love because of what I asked her to do. She absolutely refuses to discuss it... or she did, until recently. It’s a very difficult topic for her. We managed for a long while, but it was always hanging over our heads in the background.”
“She forgave you,” Jessie mutters, the reality of the situation starting to sink in.
“She always said there was nothing to forgive. We were young and stupid, and we agreed, and it still crushed her,” Sebastian clarifies.
“She’s not going to forgive me for this, is she?” Jessie asks, looking to his big brother for assurance.
“Are you going to change your mind?” Sebastian asks with a pleading tone.
Jessie takes a moment to try to reconsider it. In the silence, tears fall down his cheeks, and he knows he can’t give Sebastian the answer he wants. “I’m not.”
“Well then, no, I don’t think she will,” Sebastian tells him point-blank. “How can you let her go so easily?”
“Does this look easy to you? But I can’t, Seb. I don’t know how. I just can’t.”

The Locke Brothers Book 3

For the Locke brothers loving the same woman has always been a challenge, but nothing compared to the challenge they're yet to face…

Finally able to pursue her happily ever after with Sebastian, Vanessa is overwhelmed and excited for the future. With Jessie's blessing, they move from dating to being engaged in a matter of weeks. She can't wait to spend the rest of her life with Sebastian and doesn't want to waste another second.

But something is lurking in the background, something neither the brothers nor Vanessa could see coming. Something more dangerous than love, more threatening than heartache. When the news strikes, the turbulent love triangle is shaken to the core.

Out of desperation to change her story, Vanessa, who was ready to say I do to one brother, ends up proposing to the other. The Locke brothers are at a crossroads. Faced with impossible decisions, heart-wrenching revelations and a love strong enough to tear them all apart. They both know that in the end, they'll do anything to please the woman they love.

Love, heartache, regret, and passion all converge in this final novel of the Locke Brothers Series. Twi J. Bryant turns this love triangle on its head but in the end only one thing matters; their memories of her.

“I never stopped loving you, not for one moment. I said things to you and to my brother, things I didn’t mean, just to hurt you, to try to make myself feel better for how I was
treating you. I’m so sorry. If I could take it all back, I would. I don’t expect you to forgive me for that, Nessa, and I need you to know that I’m thankful every single day that you were stronger than I was,” Jessie pours his heart out to her.

“I do forgive you,” Vanessa tells him, bringing her hands around his neck. “I asked you to walk with me so I could tell you that. You weren’t supposed to make me cry,” Vanessa says, wiping his tears from his cheeks and looking into his eyes.

Jessie leans into Vanessa, pressing his lips gently to hers. “Sorry I made you cry, but you made me cry, so we’re even,” he teases, hovering there, their eyes locked on each other. Vanessa stands on her toes and pulls him closer, pressing her lips against his gently. Jessie is quick to respond, pulling her tightly against his body, his arms holding her close as their tongues dance.

For a moment, they’re reminded of what was, the love they shared, flashes of their memories together overwhelming them until they pull away, breathless. Jessie’s hand holds hers, fiddling with the ring on her finger. “I’m sorry. I know your heart belongs to Sebastian. We’re alone, and I just wanted to taste your lips one more time. I promise I’ll never do that in front of Sebastian.” Vanessa tries to speak but is unable to form a single sound, much less a sentence and settles for a nod of her head. “You okay?” Jessie asks, not quite ready to release her from his grip. Again, Vanessa nods. “You ready to go home?” he asks but this time, Vanessa shakes her head no.

Finding her voice, she clears her throat and takes a breath. “Can we watch the sun set, please? Like we used to?”

Jessie smiles, placing one of their kisses on her forehead and leads her to a boulder where they used to sit. He climbs up and helps her up. They sit in the exact position they used to, her back against his chest, her head on his shoulder, with his arms wrapped around her. When the sun dips out of sight and the stars appear Jessie breaks the silence. “I love you, Nessa. I always will.”

“How come the sky never looks as beautiful as it does from right here?” Vanessa asks him quietly, not ready to leave this spot.
“Are you asking me that?” Jessie asks, leaning back on his hands to see it better. “I think it’s because this is our sky. This rock is our rock. All those nights we spent here, it’s familiar, and it’s where I fell in love with you.”

“Bring Violet here one day, when she’s old enough to appreciate the view. Promise me,” she says, tilting her head back to look up at him.

“I will,” he vows, leaning down for a last kiss on her lips before they break the spell and head home.

Fang And Claw by Evangeline Anderson #Blitz

Fang And Claw
Evangeline Anderson
(Nocturne Academy, #2)
Publication date: February 22nd, 2020
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult
My name is Kaitlyn Fellows and I’ll never be the same.
The Fire stole everything from me.
My home…my family…even my beauty.
The right side of my face is normal–even pretty. But the left side, I hide in shame. That’s where The Fire marked me…scarred me forever.
At Nocturne Academy I’m nothing–just a little Norm girl with no supernatural powers and a disfigured face.
Which is why it’s so strange that a big, Handsome Drake like Ari Reyes should take an interest in me.
But it isn’t only Ari who’s interested in me.
For under his high cheekbones and clear amber eyes, he hides another, much more frightening visage–A Drake, the fire-breathing monster that lives within him.
A monster who has decided I should be his alone.
Can I survive Ari’s love for me? And more importantly, can I survive the love of his Drake?
Because once a girl has been claimed by a Drake, the only way out is through The Fire.
What am I going to do?
I finished my test and brought it up to the teacher’s desk to place face-down on the slowly accumulating pile. Ms. Eventide was a Nocturne with sharp green eyes and a pale face. She nodded as I put down my paper and turned to go back to my seat.
“Very good, Mr. Reyes, you may read quietly at your desk,” she murmured.
I nodded, even though I knew that I wouldn’t be reading a thing. I would get out a book and pretend to read, of course, but mostly I would be watching Kaitlyn, who was even now getting up to place her own test on the teacher’s desk.
But as she moved past me, the little human seemed to trip on something on the floor. She gasped and windmilled her arms, her test papers flying in all directions as she started to fall.
I didn’t think—I just acted. Reaching down, I scooped her up before she could hit the floor and gathered her close to my chest.
“Oh!” Kaitlyn gasped and for a moment I saw her full face, as I had that day in PE—both the lovely right side and the scarred left side. Then she turned away quickly, using her long hair to hide herself, as she always did.
“Are you all right?” I asked, worried about her.
“I’m fine. Please put me down.”
She was trembling in my arms—shaking as though she feared me. I could smell the scent of her terror too—the sharp smell of adrenalin rose around me.
But there was something else too—an added component to her usually sweet scent which I was, by now, completely addicted to. It was strangely metallic and…I don’t know how else to put this…cold. A scent like winter coming on.
What was wrong with her?
“Mr. Reyes, I believe you can put Miss Fellows down now.” The sharp voice of our teacher cut through me like a knife and I realized I had been cradling the little human to my chest and inhaling her scent, trying to work out what was different about her, while ignoring her request to be put back on her feet.
“Forgive me,” I said quickly, setting her down gently. “I just…didn’t want you to fall.”
Kaitlyn’s only answer was a frightened glance before she rushed back to her seat. But then she appeared to realize that her test papers were still all over the floor. She started to get up again, though by now, everyone in the class was staring at her—which I knew was agony for the little human. In all that she did, what she strove for most was simply not to be noticed—not to be seen.
“Let me,” I told her and bent to pick up the scattered papers. Stacking them neatly, I placed them face-down on the teacher’s desk and resumed my own seat.
Kaitlyn’s one visible eye—a lovely pale aquamarine that was striking in the pale, creamy brown of her face—followed me uncertainly. As I passed her on the way back to my desk she murmured, “Thank you,” in a voice so low I was certain no one heard but me.
I nodded and murmured, “Welcome.”
She stared at me for a moment more, then looked quickly away, her curtain of hair swinging down to hide her face.
I wished she could have met my eyes just a moment more—I hated the fact that she was clearly afraid of me. I probably shouldn’t have swooped her up like that but what else could I do—just let her fall?
Inside me, my Drake roared in negation. Kaitlyn was ours, he asserted passionately—ours to watch over, ours to protect. I could no more stand by and watch her fall and hurt herself than I had been able to let Sanchez get away with bullying her.
But as I sat back down in my own seat, I couldn’t help lifting my nose to catch a bit of her scent once more. Her fear had faded but the new, cold note hit my nose, making it tingle. I frowned—why did she smell so strange? So unlike herself?
I frowned as I wondered once again, what was happening to my little human?

Emilia Daarke is our Summer Princess. She's the daughter of Fae King and Queen of the summer court. She's a twin and her brother is loving towards her but has a darker side. As a child, it's easier to play with the other Royal children and the princes of the Winter court are her friends.
But one night everything changes. Emilia's future becomes cruel and unrecognisable. Her home life is no longer a desirable place and she seeks friendship with a half-fae. He becomes her light until her father finds out. Now she must try and fix what has gone wrong.

This is a dark fantasy romance which will leave you wanting the next instalment. The lines between love and hate are blurred. Everyone has a motive but some are more deadly than others.

The Summer Princess was so addictive and I can't wait for the Winter King.

This is a re-release of A Princess Duty. I haven't read the original story but I know changes have been made to the plot, book cover and title. This book is highly recommended. I really enjoyed it.

She’d been questioned. Anyone who’d want to hurt you? Anyone you’ve argued with recently? Anyone who might be holding a grudge? No, no, and no.

He slid his fingers to the handgun at his waist. If he hadn’t been searching her apartment for a killer, it would’ve been an incredibly sexy move.

The way he raked his gaze down her body… She was the victim of a crime he was investigating. She should be offended. Furious, even. But she wasn’t.

It may have been a while since Jake had had sex, but he’d never had sex like that.

He’d waited so long for something like this. There was no way he was letting her go now.

The feelings were so unfamiliar, it had to be love. Had to be everything he never thought he’d find and had been certain he didn’t deserve.

“That sounds like an abuse of power, Detective,” she said.
“You want to see an abuse of power? I’ll bring my cuffs home tonight.”

“You’re not the first person to make bad decisions because you thought you were in love.” Not that he knew anything about being in love. Bad decisions? Yes. Love? He still had a thing or two to learn about that. “

He had to figure out a way to keep her in his life. He’d been terrified of someday losing her, but the thought of not having her at all…now it seemed so much worse.

This wasn’t just some fling he was going to be able to shake off once she was out of danger and free to live on her own again.

As deliciously handsome as he looked in that suit, it served no greater purpose than to make her want to get him out of it.

He’d warned her over and over they shouldn’t get involved, but like a fool, she’d promised him she could handle something casual. This was about as far from casual as it could get.

He’d told her he couldn’t make her happy. So why had she been so damned happy with him? Why had she felt like she had everything she wanted when she’d believed she could have him?

He’d put solving the case above Emma’s safety, and he’d sworn he’d never make that mistake again. He deserved every ounce of her anger.

You’re everything I never thought I’d find, everything I was convinced I didn’t deserve. You’re home.

She was his, damn it. Whether she was ready to accept it or not, she belonged with him. No goddamned serial killer would ever get near her. He’d make damned sure of it.

A lifelong resident of northern New Jersey, Dawn Altieri has been scribbling stories practically since birth. After reaching a milestone birthday (she won't say which one), she figured it was about time she took a shot at writing professionally.

With an overactive imagination and a slightly twisted mind, she enjoys reading dark and dangerous tales almost as much as writing them. When she's not curled up on the sofa with her laptop, her latest story, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), she can be found volunteering in the world of animal rescue. It wasn’t so much that I walked him, as he did me. I wasn’t the best at getting exercise, but that had changed in the days since George came into my life a few months ago. I’d already lost two pounds, and my fat jeans weren’t cutting into my waist anymore, so I wasn’t complaining.
I’d been eating my feelings for months, so a little exercise wasn’t such a bad thing.
Behind Main Street on the north side of our building, was a huge park with the Sweet River running through it. There were walking and bike paths, and it had old-fashioned gaslight-style lamps that made it almost as bright at night as during the day. The sidewalks were bordered by gardens, each tended by a different group. The open, green areas were where many of the town’s festivals were held. Handy, since people visiting said events could come through the back entrance into our building. That’s why I’d also had a sign painted on the back.
George dragged me toward his favorite tree. But he stopped a few feet away and whined a bit. I hadn’t heard him do that before.
“George, I need you to hurry it along, buddy. I don’t have time for you to be super picky about the tree. Let’s get it done.” I kept a firm tone with him when we were outside. But I never yelled. He’d pout for days if I did, and besides, who yells at a dog?
Dumb people.
He growled. He’d never done that, either. And it wasn’t at me, it was at whatever was on the ground under the leaves.
A shiver ran through me.
Oh, no. That was my internal scare-dar. My gut always told me when danger was near or when something wasn’t quite right. The night I’d been mugged in Chicago, I’d had shivers just a few minutes before. That same sense of dread I’d experienced then slithered through me now.
Whatever was about to happen, I just wanted to run back to the shop and reclaim my happy space.
Think logically. There are no muggers in Sweet River.
The weather was cooler, and creepy crawlies were looking for places to hibernate. I’d watched enough Discovery Channel to know they liked leaves to get warm.
Could it be a snake? There were tons of leaves piled there.
The dog growled again, a deep and sort of mean sound.
“George?” I tugged gently on his leash, encouraging him to back away. “Please,” I whispered. Nerves jangled through me. I was scared he might get bitten. “Back away slowly. I don’t want whatever is under there to get you.”
He grunted and sniffed the ground.
Then he sat and wouldn’t budge. He outweighed me by a good sixty or so pounds, depending on how much chocolate I’d eaten the day before.
Stupid dog. The snake was going to strike any second. I pulled him hard, and as I did, his tail swept across the leaves and something popped out. He moved back then.
“Sit, George,” I said firmly, as my heart pounded against my chest.
Not a snake.
A hand.
A very dead-looking hand lay in the leaves, and it was attached to an equally dead-looking arm.

A Case for the Yarn Maker
Ainsley McGregor Book 2

Spin a yarn…at your own risk.

Everyone at Bless Your Art in Sweet River, Texas, is excited about the Yarn Goddess (yes, that’s her real name) coming to town. Ainsley McGregor has set up a special event at the local community center, but when old Mrs. Whedon doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the Goddess about using quality yarn, a fight breaks out. Who knew the octogenarian had ninja moves like that?

It’s all fun and games until George Clooney, Ainsley’s Great Dane, finds Ms. Yarn’s dead body in a booth at Bless Your Art. Now the prime suspect is Mrs. Whedon, and while she’s not the easiest woman to get along with, there’s no way she’s the killer. At least, Ainsley doesn’t think so. As this yarn unravels, Ainsley and her quirky friends learn some interesting things about the case and the Goddess’s checkered past. But there’s a killer on the loose.
