The Dog Roses

Sisters squabble. Queens go to war.

Resolution

The Dog Roses Book 2

by David H. Millar

Genre: Historical Fantasy

Sisters squabble. Queens go to war.

Ten summers ago, victory brought peace and prosperity to Southern ÉriuDanu and Brighid were celebrated as heroes and saviours. The queens scaled the heights, and there was only one way to go.

One twin became overbearing, the other resentful. Pride dug a pit filled with blackthorns between them. They became tyrants, and the kingdom was sundered. The people were left bitter, divided and afraid, and the lush farmlands fell barren. Stripped of their powers, the Dog Roses were no more. Each blamed the other, and neither took responsibility.

Angry parents gave the twins’ brothers an army and tasked them to bring law to the kingdom. An embittered veteran and a beautiful assassin accompany them. Whose gold is in the assassin’s pouch, and what are her orders?

In the Halls of the Aes SídheDraighean is chastised and commanded to return to her wards. “Guide them, support them, or kill them. Just finish what you started.”

An evil philosophy grows, and another army gathers. Can the sisters be reconciled? The people need the Dog Roses, but can they forgive them? Yet, do Danu and Brighid want the responsibility? Do they want their powers returned? Being normal is very tempting.

The Dog Roses: Resolution contains scenes of sex, violence, and language appropriate to the historical period (400 B.C.) and locations in which the story is set. It is not recommended for those under 14 without parental consent.

5-Star Editorial Review (Literary Titan)

The Dog Roses: Resolution is a bold, blood-soaked dive into a myth-soaked world of ancient Ériu, dripping with power struggles, family betrayals, and queens who rule with both sword and seduction. It’s the second book in Millar’s Dog Roses series, and it doesn’t pull any punches. At the heart of it are two sisters, Brighid and Danu, daughters of legendary rulers who were meant to lead with wisdom but fell into tyranny and chaos. When their father sends their brothers to clean up the mess, all hell breaks loose. You’ve got ancient gods, cunning assassins, ruthless politics, and enough battle scenes to make a Roman general blush.

If you’re into Celtic fantasy that doesn’t tiptoe around darkness, The Dog Roses: Resolution will grip you and not let go. I’d recommend it to fans of Bernard Cornwell, lovers of Irish mythology, or anyone craving epic family drama with bite.

Na Feirdhriseacha

The Dog Roses Book 1

You have no weapons, striapach."
"I am the weapon, tuilí."

It is 400 B.C. The mist clears, and three triremes glide into the calm waters of the bay in Southern Ériu. On a grass-topped dune, a young girl dances gleefully at the Goddess's gift.
The warrior princesses, Brighid and Danu, leap over the vessels' sides into the cold waters and look north towards their ancestral home—the fort of Ráth Na Conall. The clash of weapons is not a good omen.

From his throne in Caher Conri, the depraved Uallachán rages at the sight of the red shield embellished with a swooping black raven and the memories it provokes. He swears vengeance on the daughters of his old adversary.

Draighean, a demi-goddess of the mystical Aes Sídhe, stands alone on the mountain peak. She bites full maroon lips, unhappy at her mission. Yet, does she have a choice? Evil must be confronted and defeated.

Uallachán's idea of peace is to crush all dissent, but is he no more than a puppet of the powerful kings of the Connachta?

The twins know they must defeat the invasion and stop the enslavement of their people. Still, even with the help of Draighean, the odds are daunting.

The Dog Roses contains scenes of sex and violence and uses language appropriate to the period it is set in, i.e., 400 B.C. It is not recommended for those under 14 without parental consent.

5- Star Editorial Review & Gold Book Award (Literary Titan)

David H. Millar’s The Dog Roses: Na Feirdhriseacha is an exhilarating historical fantasy that plunges the reader into a world of ancient Gaelic warfare, mysticism, and political intrigue. The novel follows the twin sisters, Brighid and Danu, as they navigate their birthright, destiny, and the brutal conflicts that define their world. From the stormy shores of Ériu to the blood-soaked battlegrounds of their homeland, the sisters must harness their strength, wit, and the mystical bond of the feirdhriseacha—the dog roses—imprinted on their chests. Their journey is one of leadership, betrayal, and resilience, all set against the backdrop of Celtic mythology and the harsh realities of Iron Age survival.

The Dog Roses: Na Feirdhriseacha is a gripping read that will appeal to fans of historical fantasy, especially those with an interest in Celtic mythology and ancient warrior cultures. The depth of world-building, the complexity of the characters, and the sheer intensity of the storytelling make this a novel worth savoring. If you enjoy books like The Mists of Avalon or The Last Kingdom, this one should be on your list.

𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐲

I never thought I’d be a runaway bride. But when it came down to it, I just couldn’t marry the wrong man.

So, I ran.

And somehow, I ended up in Star Falls, Colorado—stranded, no luggage, no plan—in a wedding dress with a past I’d rather forget.

Fate lands me in the only available rental in town, a cozy little cabin… right next door to Byron Miller, the brooding billionaire who wants nothing to do with me. Or this town.

I left Star Falls years ago, along with every mistake. Now I’m back, determined to build a luxury resort that might just rewrite my past.

The last thing I need is a distraction—especially not one like the runaway bride that moved in next door. She has too many secrets and a smile so wide, I just can’t look away.

But no matter how hard I try to keep my distance, there’s something about her, that refuses to be ignored.

Snow falls. Sparks fly. Late-night porch talks turn into something more, something neither of us expected. But Rosey’s past isn’t far behind, and my future here is hanging by a thread.

She’s just passing through. I’m trying not to put down roots. But Star Falls, Colorado has its own plan.

REVIEW: 5*

Love Fast was beautiful like I imagine the Colorado Club to be.

It’s starts with Rosey on her wedding day where she’s about to marry a man who offers her security. Frank is everything her mother wants for her future. But it might not be best for Rosey. Given the choice Rosey must either do what’s expected or become a runaway bride.

Byron is returning home to Colorado where his past still holds a shard of glass. He’s been living in New York and leaving the city to open a resort brings up old memories. He has to figure out how to re-navigate the town he grew up in.

These two meet when both of their lives are up in the air, but love doesn’t wait for anything.

I started reading this on my kindle but was offered the opportunity to listen to the audiobook so I swapped. I’ve listened to these two narratives before and they executed Love Fast perfectly.

This is part of a new series, and I absolutely will be reading more in the future.

Samson and the Charleston Spy #Spotlight

Experience the mysterious start of the Civil War through a young boy’s perspective in this historically accurate and action-packed adventure/mystery

Samson and the Charleston Spy

A Lowcountry Adventure Book 1

by Paul A Barra

Genre: Middle Grade Historical Adventure Mystery

The protagonist of SAMSON AND THE CHARLESTON SPY may be the definitive underrepresented voice in middle-grade fiction today: he's a boy and a Southerner, confronting the Civil War from the Confederate perspective.

When Samson Collier and three sixth-grade friends witness the bombardment of Ft. Sumter offshore from their homes, they decide that the Yankee soldiers at the fort must have been forewarned about the attack-since no one was killed although the structure appeared to be wrecked. They set off to find the spy who told secrets.

During their escapades, they confront slavery (one of the four is the son of a freedman), nativism (another of them is the daughter of a prominent Catholic family), zealotry (a man forming a brigade to fight the North appropriates Sam's beloved horse) and evil (they are attacked by a highwayman in The Devil's Hole). Eventually, the children discover a shocking plan to undermine their homeland.

The book is an historically accurate and action-packed adventure/mystery.

Pretend Fiancé Fiasco by Pippa Grant

Title: The Pretend Fiancé Fiasco
Series: Copper Valley Bro Code #6
Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Tropes: Mysterious Protective Hero/Fake
Relationship/Forced Proximity/Treasure Hunt
Release Date: May 8, 2025

BLURB

A reclusive former celebrity, a recovering good girl, and small town trouble...

It started as a joke. After a string of bad boyfriends, I made up a fake boyfriend so people would quit asking when I was going to meet a grumpy lumberjack trying to save his mama’s inn in my adopted hometown.

When my grandma demanded proof from afar, I sent her a picture of me and my “boyfriend.”

Spoiler alert: He wasn’t really my boyfriend.

He was actually a reclusive former boy band member who swings through town sometimes and is friends with my friends.

As much as a reclusive former boy bander can be friends with anyone, that is.

He doesn’t know I told anyone he’s my boyfriend. Or that his name is Steve.

So when Grandma sends the guy she’d rather me marry to town to make sure “Steve” is good enough for me—and to talk me into marrying him instead—I have something of a problem.

But I got myself into this mess, so I’ll get myself out.

By proposing.

Relax, relax, I’m proposing a fake wedding.

And when he turns me down, I can say we broke up.

Except he doesn’t turn me down.

Instead, he offers me a trade.

He’ll pretend to be my groom, but I have to do something for him in return.

And that something?

Hoooo, boy.

I liked the man better when he was my pretend boyfriend Steve.

The Pretend Fiancé Fiasco is an action-packed romcom featuring the reclusive final member of the boy band Bro Code, a recovering good girl with too many men interested in her for all the wrong reasons, a treasure hunt, a fake engagement, and the best surprise to hit the Copper Valley universe since the Fireballs’ new mascot was revealed. This small town romcom stands alone, but you wouldn’t go wrong to read both the Copper Valley Bro Code and Copper Valley Fireballs series, along with Dirty Talking Rival, to catch all of the easter eggs.

Just Another Meet Cute #Review

Just Another Meet Cute
Jenn P. Nguyen
Publication date: May 20th 2025
Genres: Comedy, Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult

Boy saves girl stuck on a disastrous hike. What could go wrong? So. Much.

Just Another Meet Cute is the joyful and funny story about what happens when you realize you’re dating the wrong twin.

When seventeen-year-old Nina Riley gets saved by a super cute Knight-in-Faded-Khakis just as she lands in an embarrassingly ‘ahem ’sticky situation during the most disastrous hike known to man, she wasn’t exactly looking for a meet cute. She really just needed some peace and quiet from her complicated family. Unfortunately, he disappears before she can properly thank him or get his number. All she has is his name (Ian Nguyen) and a navy jacket with a dog keychain, a gym card, and laundromat receipt. But a meet cute is a meet cute. And armed with years of watching Veronica Mars and a techy cousin, it should be simple enough for Nina to find the boy of her dreams, right? But when she finally tracks him down, he’s different than she thought ―right down to his name. Ryan is just as cute as she remembers, but the chemistry isn’t there like it was before. After a few dates, she meets Ryan’s family: his sweet grandma, his enthusiastic sisters, and his twin brother ――Ian.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks

REVIEW 4*

Just another meet cute has so many elements that had me excited to read it. I loved the mistaken identity concept and cinnamon roll hero’s are completely on my radar.

Nina’s gone on a hike to get away from family drama. Unfortunately her day isn’t going as planned and when she gets into a different situation, Ian is there to rescue her.

Later she thinks she’s able to return the favour when what she thinks is Ian gets into a little trouble of his own. But the guy she’s saved might look like Ian but he says he’s called Ryan. Could she be mistaken or did he forget her?

✅ Mistaken identity
✅ Love triangle
✅ Cinnamon roll element
✅ Who’s the guy for Nina?
✅ Family drama
