The map of your heart will show you the way...

It’s Christmas 1997 and Mariah Rowland’s freshman year of college couldn’t be more of a disaster. Her high school boyfriend dumped her, her course load is stressing her out, and the college parties aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. Craving some normalcy, Mariah heads home for the holidays, but after a shocking discovery, she realizes even home isn’t the same.

Now she’s on a cross-country quest to right a wrong. Accompanying her is ex-best friend, Mason Wright. Mason’s on a mysterious journey of his own as he makes his way to California. Wounds old and new are opened between the friends throughout their travels, including some feelings they thought no longer existed.

But as their road trip ends, Mariah once again discovers that nothing is as it seems. She has some life-altering decisions to make that will change things forever.

North Star Angel is a coming of age, friends to lovers, holiday romance with a guaranteed HEA. It features young adult characters in mature situations and may not be suitable for readers under eighteen.

“Hey, baby, you here alone?”

Her runaway thoughts evaporated and she looked up to a man holding a beer bottle. He didn’t ask before dropping into the seat across from her. Far from her usual type, the mid- to late- twenty-something man wasn’t bad-looking. He stood at about six feet tall with slicked back hair and a grin that ate up half his face. His smug vibe betrayed him as the type to finesse and smooth talk.

“I’m here with a friend. He’ll be back any minute.”

“Shit, hope I’m not in his seat. He won’t mind if I join y’all, would he? Name’s Chuck,” he said casually. He invaded more space, folding his elbows onto the table with his bottle in hand. “Between me and you, I’m waiting on someone. First date.”

“That sounds nice,” she humored. “But my friend and I were leaving soon, so you should probably find someone else to wait it out with.”

“I don’t mind if y’all leave. Hell, this booth’ll be ours if you do. I come here all the time, but I’ve never seen you here. You new in town?”

“I’m passing through. I’m headed home for winter break.” The beer stirred a candor out of her that made her flinch upon second thought. She doubled down on keeping her next replies ambiguous.

“Ahhh, a college gal. I thought you looked young. Where do you go? Graduated from Tennessee U myself.”

“Not there.”

“Then where?”

“I don’t think it matters, does it?” She gave him her best polite smile.

“You’re right. It’s none of my business. Just saw a pretty girl sitting by herself and figured I’d come over to say hi.”

“And your date?”

“Alright,” he said, holding up his hands and chuckling. “You caught me. There is no date. That was a pick-up line. Pretty good, eh?”

“It’s better than what’s your sign. But it’s still a fail. And I was serious about my friend. He’s coming back.”

“You’re spoken for. I get it. I can take a hint. Figured I’d shoot my shot. It can never hurt,” he said, leaning forward. “How about I buy you a drink? That one’s almost done for.”

“What’s going on?”

Mariah and Chuck looked up to find Mason standing in front of the booth. His face rivaled stone, the opposite of Chuck’s broad grin.

“Guess this is the friend. I’m Chuck.” The tall man held out his hand and chuckled. “I was just telling your gorgeous lady friend here that I ought to buy y’all a round of drinks. What’s your poison?”

“You’re in my seat,” snapped Mason.

Chuck’s eyes darted from Mason to Mariah and back again. His grin widened. “Buddy, I come in peace. I’m just tryna enjoy my night. Mingle and make some friends. Swear I was only coming by to say hello—”

“Nobody asked you to. Get outta my seat and go. Now.”

“Excuse me, miss.”

Looking up with a smile, ready to accommodate another song request, she was taken aback, her breath catching in her chest. The man was tall, dark, and handsome and he looked very familiar. She started to panic, trying to place him in the shadowy light.

“I didn’t mean to startle you. I wanted to ask… the last song you just sang. I seem to recognize it but can’t quite place the name. Who is the artist?”

The molecules in her brain shifted, and she was suddenly aware of who was standing before her. In an effort not to faint or start screaming, she placed her hand on her heaving bosom and tried to breathe again, all the while his steady gaze penetrating her entire being. She swallowed hard, trying to get some moisture back into her throat so she could respond, but it felt as if her entire mouth had been force-fed a bucket of sand. The gorgeous man was holding a martini glass and looking like he had just stepped out of a high-class advertisement, his designer clothing obvious.

“Umm… that song was….” She cleared her throat. “It’s a Richard Rodgers, umm, song.” Eying his drink a second time, she reached for it and took it from his hands. “Do you mind?” She didn’t wait for his response, anxious to send moisture onto her hot tongue, throwing the drink back in one gulp before choking on the alcohol burning down her throat. “Oh my god! What was that?” she asked scowling.

The gorgeous man gently took the empty glass back from her, his index finger brushing her hand slightly. “Well, it was my gin martini. May I get you something more to your liking?” He tried not to smile but his blue eyes tinged with humor and gave him away.

Lauren held the back of her hand to her mouth and stared at him. “I know who you are,” she whispered, wide eyed. “You’re the super…” He interrupted her quickly by abruptly grabbing her by the elbow.

“Let me buy you a drink.” He started to lead her to the mahogany bar where her friend Tim was bartending.

“Hey Lauren. How’s it going?” Tim asked as he wiped down the polished wood in front of them. Could he tell she was coming undone being in the presence of one of the most stunning, sought after male models on the planet? Flashbacks of a recent trip to New York with some of her girlfriends came to mind when they stood in the middle of Times Square and took several pictures of the man’s famous image plastered on a giant billboard. His gorgeous, half-naked body was on full display for all the world to see wearing nothing but designer underwear. She started to swoon just thinking about it.

“Good, Tim.” Her reply came out a little too quickly, her voice three octaves higher than normal. She glanced at the illustrious man who stood mere inches from her, not sure if she would be able to continue a conversation. Her entire body felt like it was buzzing and she feared she might hyperventilate. Slowly, she eased onto the leather bar stool, hoping it wasn’t obvious she was coming undone.

“Sparkling water for you?” Tim asked knowingly. Lauren never drank while she performed, a lesson she’d learned many years ago when she had made the mistake of going to happy hour with friends before a show. Consuming one too many shots of tequila, she couldn’t remember the lyrics that night, and was lucky the manager hadn’t fired her.

“Yes, please,” she squeaked.

“And for you, sir?”

Leaning his strong arm against the back of her bar stool, he reached for a cashew in a crystal bowl causing his bulging bicep to come very close to grazing her breast. “I should like another gin martini, Tim. Hendricks please, with a cucumber garnish.” His British cadence was sophisticated and debonair, accentuating his high-class image.

Tim placed a green tinted bottle of sparkling water in front of Lauren and proceeded to mix the martini. As she tried to open her drink with trembling hands, she could feel heat tinge her cheeks. The damn cap wouldn’t budge.

“Allow me, Lauren,” he offered, the “L” of her name sounding beautiful with his lilting articulation. He effortlessly turned the cap just once and handed it back to her, his chiseled features dangerously close to her lips. She smiled politely before taking a sip and almost choked when he started to speak, palming her back with his hot hand.

“Feeling any better?”

She licked her lips and placed the bottle back on the bar. “Yes, thank you.” Her face continued to flush, and she was surprised when he leaned closer and whispered into her ear.

“It’s nice to meet you, Lauren. You have a lovely voice.”

His warm breath made her insides tingle and she had to inhale deeply before she could mutter a reply. “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you too… you have a lovely… face.” She forced herself not to roll her eyes after the words came out of her mouth, pressing her lips together in a tight line. What a stupid thing to say.

EXCERPT:

Whoosh! Whoosh! I flush both urinals, then rush over to toilet #1. Whoosh! I stand in front of the stall to #2 and get ready to flush that one.

I’m in my own little world and let my guard down to ponder the question. I am also exhausted and most definitely not in top form, because I let a few seconds go by before realizing that someone is coming in the bathroom. Out of the corner of my eye I see a business shoe, and that becomes a blur as I scurry into one of the stalls and shut the door.

Heart pounding, I stare at the dented back of the stall door. Then I look down. Chipped red nail polish peeks up at me from my open-toed navy shoe. Aside from being outed as a transgendered person in here, there’s no plausible reason why any men’s room stall occupant should have red toenails.

I quickly scramble to perch myself on the toilet, feet planted firmly on either side of the rim, squatting over the open bowl like I am giving birth. Because I am genetically incapable of balance—ever—and as my heart slams against my chest so hard it might as well be playing a djembe, I lean carefully forward with one arm against the back of the stall door, the other clutching my phone.

The unmistakable sound of a man taking a whizz echoes through the bathroom. I can’t help myself and look through the tiny crack in the door.

It’s Mr. Sex in a Suit, his back to me. Thank goodness, because if I got a full-frontal shot right now, then how would I answer the “aesthetically pleasing” question from a strictly professional standpoint?

The tiny bit of shifting I do to peer through the crack makes my right foot slip, and I make a squeaking sound, then lose my grip on my phone as my arm flails.

Ka-PLUNK!

You know that sound, right? I know, and you know, that I’ve just dropped my smartphone in the toilet, but he thinks the man—he assumes it’s a man—in here just delivered something the size of a two-hundred-year-old turtle into the toilet.

I look down. My phone is still glowing, open to the question “Is the bathroom aesthetically pleasing?”

Blurb: They say your first love leaves a mark. For Calliope James it didn't only leave a mark, it tore out her heart and left it bleeding on the ground. He was her best friend. Her first kiss. Her everything. Until one day, he wasn't. Zachary Messiah will never forget the girl with eyes the color of whiskey. But he's not that boy anymore. Cold. Cruel. He's devoid of emotion. Their paths were never supposed to cross again. But love doesn't always play by the rules. Now he's the King of Steinbeck University and she's the new girl on campus ... and the pasts they have fought so hard to bury are about to collide. Only this time, they might not survive the fallout.

My Review:

I hate to love you. Rebound was heated and of angsty. It was everything I expected from a LA Cotton novel. The freebie Halloween sequel is worth reading before this.

Zach hates everything. The basketball team is the gift he didn’t want. The step in lifestyle wasn’t where he expected to be. The girls he used to love wasn’t out of his mind.

Cali is used to secrets. They are wants made her strong. When she arrives at college she doesn’t expect the secrets to run so deep. Her ex, Zach is king of the campus and she tries to get on with her own life but he seems to be everywhere she is.

Cali and Zach are familiar with pain in their hearts. They both hate hard but can they get something from each other nobody else can offer.

This is intended for an adult audience. It’s a dark romance with a tug at the heart. I very much enjoyed this college romance.

I’m a trained killer. An expert tracker.

I’ve done despicable things. My soul is damaged. My body impaired. That’s what happens when you are a soldier for The Company. I was discharged a year ago. Now I am a dreg. Worthless. With a bounty on my head. I’ve become a creature of the night, hiding in an underground maze during the day. Because I’m not ready to die yet.

The Fighter
The Dregs Book 2

My dreg name is The Fighter. I’m an expert in mixed martial arts. I had to betray my dreg brothers to protect my child. I’m a traitor now. An outsider. So I keep my distance from them. Hiding in the shadows.

But I have more important things to worry about than trying to win back their trust. I have a five-year-old kid to take care of now. She scares the hell out of me. I don’t know the slightest thing about kids. I need a nanny to care for my daughter. So I place an ad and hope that someone will reply.
The woman who responds is not what I expect. She’s young and gorgeous and way out of my league.

But she’ll have to do, since I have no one else. I try not to want her. I try to keep my distance. But she is pure temptation. And I’m falling under her spell.

She doesn’t know that working for me puts her in danger. She doesn’t know who or what I am. And I plan to keep it that way.

Because the truth could hurt her.

And so could I.

The Healer
The Dregs Book 3

Violence has been a part of my life since my early teens. But I’m a peacemaker at heart. I fix things. I heal the wounded.

Being a dreg means I’ve spent most of my life as a prisoner, a soldier for The Company doing despicable things. I can’t change the past or what I’ve done. But I can control who I am today.

I’ve always followed the rules. Always. Until the one time I didn’t.

I gave my phone number to a complete stranger. I broke a rule that would prove detrimental to my safety and the safety of my dreg brothers. I thought I was just helping a woman in need. I didn’t even consider the consequences of that action.

And now the dominoes are falling, one by one…

For her, I would break the rules. For her, I wanted to be a hero. To change the world. But being a hero comes at a cost.

Am I willing to risk it all for a woman who could ruin me and everything I believe in?

The Smuggler
The Dregs Book 4

Discharged.

As a soldier, that was the thing I dreaded most. Being discharged. War, fighting, and killing were my life. What I did best.

But now I’d been discharged. My physical injuries were minuscule. But my mental injuries were severe. PTSD. That’s what they said. I was messed up inside. Loco. So now I am a dreg. With nothing to do. No purpose in life. I will waste away like this. I need action. I need violence. I need war.

I find all of that when a gorgeous redhead tricks me. She’s a bounty hunter. How did I not see that one coming? Now I am a captive. Chained like a beast. I will escape. I will get revenge and make her pay. I will get the violence I crave.

Then she frees me. And the tables turn. Now I’m in charge. She’s my prisoner. I can’t lose this battle. I won’t let her win. Because losing means she’s taken something from me, something I don’t want to admit I even had to begin with.

A heart.

The Trainer
The Dregs Book 5

Language is my passion. I excel in linguistics. I can “train” myself to learn any language on the planet. In minutes. Or less. You won’t get anything past me, no matter what language you’re speaking.

Being a dreg means I have a bounty on my head, so I conduct all my business under cover of darkness. One night I return from fueling up my truck to find an Asian beauty hiding in the bed. One look into her stunning, almond-shaped eyes, her exquisitely exotic features, and I’m a goner. I will do anything for this woman.

Then I discover her daddy is the leader of one of the most powerful gangs in Augusta—the Black Dragons. Is she really as innocent as she seems? Or have I been set up?

Now I’m a target. I’ve intercepted a major deal. Her daddy is furious and wants her back. The gangs are coming for her.

But they’ll have to get through me first. Because now that I’ve found her, I’m not giving her up.

The Hacker
The Dregs Book 6

My dreg name is The Hacker. I can get past any firewall, decrypt any document, hack into any electronic device. No matter your secrets, I will find them. Nothing is safe from me. There is no other hacker in the world with my unique abilities.

So when I discover someone is researching me, I take notice.

Senator Collins’ daughter is on to me. She’s an investigative reporter on the hunt for the truth surrounding her father’s death. She knows I was somehow involved. She’s threatening to find me. To make me suffer. She won’t stop until she gets her story. So I egg her on, daring her to find me.

She takes the bait.

Now I have a choice to make. I can scare her so badly that she gives up her investigation and stops looking into her father’s death.

Or I can share the truth. About her father. About The Company. About the dregs. About everything.
But if I let her into my life, into my heart—if I trust her—she could destroy me so easily. She could ruin us all.

How far will she go to get her story? And how much am I willing to reveal for an elusive chance at love?

The Extractor
The Dregs Book 7

I’m a player. A ladies’ man. Seduction is my specialty. Luring women into my bed is easy peasy. None of them can resist me. It’s not their fault. I am irresistible. They all want me. Every last one of them.

Until I meet Liz.

I made a life-changing decision the day I took a detour to visit my mother. A decision that not only put Mom in danger, but Liz as well. You see, Liz works for my mom, and I have to go through Liz to get to my mother. The thing is, I find myself drawn to Liz. Even though she’s not my type. She’s different than the others. Her quiet beauty and inner strength call to me.

But Liz doesn’t want me back. She despises me on sight. My charm won’t work on her. My good looks don’t seduce her. She’s immune to me.

And I can’t stand it. Why won’t she give me a chance? How can she judge me without even knowing me? So I try a different tactic. Just friends.

It throws her off and now she’s falling right into my carefully laid trap. She’s letting down her guard, little by little. Except, I’m the one who gets snared. I’m the one who falls.

Now I have to figure out how to show her that I can be a one-woman man, and she’s the only one I want.

But I soon have a much bigger problem than winning Liz over.

A cunning mastermind who will stop at nothing to see me dead—and steal my girl.

The Enforcer
The Dregs Book 8

Damaged. Broken.

Those are words I never thought I would associate with myself.

But that was before The Controller got a hold of me.

Now I’m a mere shell of the man I once was. I’m fighting an uphill battle, desperately trying to recover from The Controller’s pull over me. Trying to heal.

It’s been four months since the dregs all moved to Idaho. My dreg brothers all have normal lives now. Women who love them. Families. A purpose.

Not me. I’m more alone now than I’ve ever been. I ignore everyone’s text messages and their phone calls. I stay hidden from the world, living in a small cabin back in the woods. I don’t want them to see me this way.

One night, the loneliness finally gets to be too much. I crave a woman’s warm body and a physical release to help me cope. So I head out in search of a willing female who might keep me company for a few hours.

The gorgeous and sexy bartender at the Northern Pike is just what I need. I have no way of knowing that she will bring nothing but danger and upheaval into my life. That she will turn my world completely upside down. Or that she might be the only thing that can heal me.

But by the time I figure all of that out, it’s too late.

The Controller is back.

And this time, he has no intention of letting me go.
