I wrote that when I was fourteen and had spent the night contemplating my first attempt at suicide. The relentless harnessing of trying to anticipate the amount and depth of ridicule I would receive for my too tight jeans and popped buttons on my flannel shirts when I walked into the school the next day was suffocating. My wardrobe consisted of husky everything and oversized adult shirts. Not the fashion statement a teenage girl would hope to set. However, writing has always been a refuge to release the power of pain when escape was inevitable, and the food was not available.
Today, I own one pair of fashion jeans and flannel has yet to make a comeback in my wardrobe. It’s easier now to look back on some experiences that used to crush my soul but now only sting a bit. I can’t recount them without any te of painful coating; the two go hand-in-hand it’s just some memories hurt less than others.
Once again, you may be questioning what does this have to do with losing weight? Some may even be getting slightly nervous that this next juncture is going to hit a little too close to home. Still, others are losing connection and have almost justified the reason this process is not for them, and they can quit without guilt. That is such a fancy way of saying this book is going to be hurled across the room or thrown straight in the trash. But, hold on. Bear down through any emotional reaction that separates you from the truth and use your intellect to be still. Take a break. Reassure yourself that everything is going to be just fine and say it enough times until you believe it. Remember from goal setting we are working toward balancing the emotional and intellectual responses to merge in the middle instead of using the either-or concept and stay in active addiction.
You should always question anything you don’t understand it’s called self-care. You have every right to be nervous whenever your instincts are flared up. That’s what they are there to do. Your instincts warn you to pause and re-evaluate before going further. Always honor them and never, ever dismiss them as nothing. They are God [if you believe] or the Universe [if you don’t] sending you signals to pause and think before determining your next right move.
