My Freshman Year of Fabulous (School Dayz Book 4)
by Jennifer DiGiovanni
When Avery Thornton needs to escape a first
day of school disaster, she ducks into an equipment room to hide and meets
someone else who’s also having a really bad day. Eli Fields just got demoted to
third string on the football team, a sport he doesn’t even really want to play.
On the hunt for a dance partner before her competition season begins, Avery
discovers Eli’s secret, non-football life outside of school. She thinks he
could be the dance partner she’s dreamed about. But Eli wants no part of
dancing with Avery. When someone else steps in as Avery’s partner for
competitions, she and Eli begin practicing steps “just for fun.”
But, is that really all that Eli wants? And
although Avery has found a perfect partner, she’s learning that perfection
doesn’t necessarily equal happiness.

My Freshman year of fabulous is Avery's story. Starting with her first day. She is nervous and manages to get lost on her way to registration. Luckily for her, she bumps into Eli. He's having a hard time. His family are all about football and he is struggling to follow in his brother's footsteps.
Avery soon realises high school isn't as scary as she originally thought. She manages to make some great new friends and her sister's friends have been welcoming too. Avery is part of a dance group but when challenged to a dance video game with Eli she sees something she likes. He can dance he just doesn't realise it. He is also in a band and pretty cool.
This book is about friendship, romance, fitting and learning from past experiences. It's for the young teen. It has quirky lines and Avery gains some great friends. I liked Eli and Avery and their love is sweet. The book could have been longer but the story was fun. 4 stars out of 5. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review as part of the chapter by chapter blog tour.
This book contains a bonus Super important summer intern. This is Mila's summer of new love and cooking. Jake cheats on Mila. She realises she needs to take the opportunities that present themselves. She loves cooking and enters a competition to win the chance to work with some top chefs. She finds more than she bargains for and has fun along the way. This is a mini romance. It's like a tv cooking show and reads pretty good (14 chapter extra story).
Overall this book was a good light-hearted bedtime read.
*This is a standalone book and doesn't require the other books to be read first.
